The current kitchen is u-shaped with a pass-through at the far end over the sink. I hate the walls and the pass-through. It has driven me crazy from day one that I have to walk out of the kitchen and around to get to the dining room.

A few things to note:
- The door off to the right is the front door of my condo. The wall to the right as you enter the condo is a coat closet, 2 feet of which I have appropriated for this kitchen. Pretend there are cool new modern doors on the closet.
- There are soffits all around the kitchen where the walls are. The only entrance faces the entry door. I’m pretty sure there is plumbing and/or electrical that will have to run somewhere, so at least some of the soffits will probably stay in modified form.
- The area to the left of the kitchen is the dining room. The diagonal wall to the right of the drawing can’t be moved.
- I'm going to splurge on an integrated 18" dishwasher to the left of the sink, so the panels on either side of the sink will match. I am also going to try to do a pullout cabinet under the sink, or at least have a single door there too.
- The countertops will be Vetrazzo unless I decide I can’t afford them–the backup plan is Silestone or something similar.

I am trying to keep the kitchen more or less within the current dimensions. The condo is pretty small and I don't need enormous appliances or a ton of counter space. I am stealing 2 feet from the 6-foot coat closet (I've never had 6 feet of coats) and adding 12" cabinets to the living room side of the island for more storage.

Originally I was going to put cabinets above the island with glass on both sides, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of just having open space.

The corner of the existing kitchen is cut off paralleling the diagonal wall. Instead of having a rectangular island, I may have the counter fabricated to have an angle at the end to mimic the current countertop shape. (The side of the island facing the sink would be a few feet longer.) I just have to figure out what to do with it. Right now I have a triangular cabinet that holds a blender and not much else. Perhaps there is a hack out there…

Comments? Suggestions? I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who did some of the things I am planning and hated them.
