This must be a well-known fact: the right use of the proper tools will in fact develop your cooking know-how. Not only that, but it will also put in an additional degree of simplicity to food preparation, as well as enhance your general contentment with the progression of this process. With the proper kitchen tools, you will actually get the chance to give increased attention to food, instead of bothering with the lack of the right kitchen knives, steels or other tools.

Kitchen knives are imperative when you cook. And if you want to get good food, you have to get good kitchen knives. For more results go to www.cajuns-recipes.com. You might even go on a bender just a bit for acquiring the best knives. The good news is that you will not need an entire store of knives to satisfy your cooking needs. Essentially, you will need three types of knives forming the basis of your kitchen tools necessities.

First, you need a chefs knife. Its size ranges from 8 to 10. The bottom edge of the chefs knife should be coiled. Keep in mind that this is your main kitchen knife. The coiled bottom edge is useful as it moves easily on the chopping board. If you are looking for an adaptable knife, the chefs knife is what you are looking for. You can chop onions, carrots, tomatoes, and even herbs with it. But you can also cut various types of meat with it and you can even have a cake nicely slices with such a knife.

Second, for the special purpose of slicing bread, you will need a serrated knife. Typically, bread knives are serrated. Most skilled cooks suggest a serrated knife that has sharp serrations as a replacement for undulating serrations. Sharp serrations mean improved control of the knife. You can choose different sizes for serrated knives. Longer serrated knives (8 to 10 long) will do a nice job slicing uncut loaves, while a shorter such knife is ideal for smaller bread types, such as bread rolls that you use for making sandwiches.

Finally, another of the basic kitchen knives is the paring knife. Its size is small, ranging from 2 to 4. The paring knife is perfect for peeling fruits and vegetables, for slicing miniature items, and for other types of detail work, particularly when the food is in your hand.

Of course, your set of kitchen tools cannot lack a sharpening steel. Keep in mind that no knife is going to do a good job if it is not sharp enough. A sharpening steel will complete your set of kitchen tools marvelously. Do not worry; it will not occupy too much space and it will be very easy to use. Grasp the knife in your dominant hand. With the other hand grab the sharpening steel.

The steel point should be pushed into a firm waist-level plane. Grasp the knife base and place it at the tip of the steel in an angle of 20 degree. Then, gradually get the knife downward the steel. You will need to drag the knife back for the full sharp edge to go against the steel. Next, do this again for the other face. You need to do this four or five times. After you are finished, the knife should be rinsed and dried.
No set of kitchen tools is complete in the absence of good kitchen knives. Remember also to always keep close by a sharpening steel. Your knife will be of no use if it is not sharp.

Every single day people use items produced from places like Japan. More than half the items and products sold in the USA are from Japan or China and are for every day use. There are two main reasons for this. For one Japanese made products are incredibly innovative, they come up with new ideas and products every single day that we use. And two they are quality assured. This goes with any products from Japan as well as kitchenware and accessories. These products are really great because they are usable but are also made from quality materials. You can be sure if you buy something that’s Japanese or Chinese made you will be able to use that product over and over again.

Some of the products you can look forward to buying on any site but specifically a Chinese site that has kitchenware as well as other kitchen accessories is:

Chopstick sets – Jade, ivory, carved bamboo, shell tipped, rosewood, porcelain, stainless steel
Dinner sets – porcelain (take a look at the sushi dishes), wooden, bamboo, stainless steel
Japanese style bowls – porcelain, wooden, colored, soup bowl, rice bowl
Linens – Embroidered

The styles and colors alone on these products are really nice, I especially like the bowls and plates that have a very earthy tones like browns, greens and blues. I just recently bought a set for my sushi kit its got the two soup bowls, two sushi plates, two tea cups, and two “soy sauce” dishes, sorry I don’t know the correct term! I also received 2 pairs of chopsticks that came in a personalized type box with the dragon craved into it. They are really nice and for everything it cost me under $200 and I know I’ll use these all the time so I will get my worth out of them!

If you’re curious about some of the items above or you want to take a look at something else it’s a good idea to check some of these really nice sites out. Depending on your personal preference and what you’re looking for you can decide which site is best for you!

KoaMart
MrsLinsKitchen
CherryBlossomGardens
TimesHouseWare

Some of these sites also offer Chinese spices which I suggest you taking a good look at if you’re a Chef like me or you just like to cook! If you’re going to be buying kitchenware you may as well get some ingredients for the food you are going to be cooking as well!

As a Chef I’m always trying to find new gadgets, equipment, or products to add to my kitchen. Its one of the most important places in any house, not just in mine. Notice the next time you have a party how for some reason everyone always ends up in the kitchen! It doesn’t matter if it’s small or large, they will squeeze in if need be! One of my favorite appliances I bought about a year ago was my bright red Kitchen Aid Artisan Series 5 Quart Mixers. And my favorite addition to the house itself was this really great installation project I got from a place online called FourSeasonSunRooms. They specialize in sun rooms for you’re house, and it doesn’t really matter what you start with in the beginning because in the end it will be incredible!

You can easily find all this and more online. You just have to know what you’re looking for, have an idea of some really good sites online to use, and have an idea of a price range you would like to stick to. If you’re looking for kitchen gadgets, the best places you can go are WilliamSonoma, CrateandBarrel, or CHEFScatalog. If you’re looking for people to come to your house and do installations of some sort, then I absolutely recommend FourSeaonSunRooms they did a really wonderful job and the service was great as well! Or if you’re searching for some MAJOR kitchen updates such as flooring, counter tops and cabinets try Kitchens dot com, RangeHoods dot com, or HGTV dot com.

I absolutely love HGTV, not only do they have some really good information, but they also have DIY (Do It Yourself) projects, and they are really reliable and well-known! In fact, for kitchen designs alone, I’m going to recommend HGTV as the best place to go for all your design, DIY, and kitchen updates. You will not be disappointed with this site! Now these are just sites online that you can go to, obviously there’s more offline than I even care to list. But as far as offline stores go I would stick to what you know, what you’re comfortable with, and what you’ve heard of! As for the stores online I either mentioned here, or ones you might find in the future; Always check out Google for reviews. Each site you go to will most likely either have a disgruntled customer or a customer that was really happy with their service.

These are the site reviews and service reviews that are going to either give you the kitchen of your dreams, or perhaps haunt you! Make sure you read and re-read these reviews for these types of sites, as well as any other type of site you may visit in the future. If you want more sites like the ones I have visited you can try searching for the following search terms “Buy Ranges Online”, “Buy Cabinets Online”, “Find DIY projects”, “Find Kitchen Appliances.” Or if you know exactly what you’re searching for, then go ahead and add the brand name, type, or color to the above searches and you should find exactly what you’re looking for.

—

Everyone who cooks can use some of these practical, time saving kitchen tools. While you can get by with a bare bones kitchen and a few old pots and pans, a lot of dishes are harder to make or more time consuming to prepare. The items in this list can free up some of your time, help you make delicious meals, store leftovers and even make the kitchen a fun place. So without further ado, here are some of my favorite kitchen gadgets. I hope you like them.

1.Bread Maker. Imagine getting up in the morning to the smell of freshly baked bread, ready for you to take out of the machine and slice up for toast or for lunch sandwiches. And all you had to do was load the ingredients the night before, then set the timer.

2.Automatic Coffee Maker. This goes well with the bread maker. Add coffee grounds and water, set the clock and have coffee waiting for you when you stumble out of bed in the morning. Rise and shine!

3.High Quality Knife Set. I used to make do with an old set of mismatched knives given to me without a knife block. Some of the handles were loose, and they had to be stored in a drawer. The new set sits on the counter top. The edges stay sharp longer, and the set contains knives for most needs. More room in the drawer, too.

4.Plastic Food Containers. With a set of containers for food storage, saving leftovers is much easier. Many have lids with vents, for use in microwaves. Another way to use them is to freeze food for future use. They look better than old margarine and yogurt containers, too.

5.Immersion Blender. These hand-held gadgets can be placed in large drinking glasses, pots, or mixing bowls. You can mix drinks, baking ingredients, gravies or even whip potatoes. They take up less space and are easier to clean than traditional blenders as well.

6.Toaster Oven. A toaster oven can cook toasted items with toppings, like garlic bread and mini pizzas, as well as make toast. Small baking projects are possible too, if you don’t want to or can’t use a larger oven.

7.Sandwich Grill. For grilled cheese, tuna melts and patty melts, these grills seal the edge of the sandwich so cheese and other things can’t leak out.

These are some of the kitchen gadgets I like to use myself. For the larger items, maybe you can borrow one to test drive it before you buy. That is what I did with the bread maker. Our food containers, coffee maker and hand blender see daily use, and the toaster oven and sandwich grill once or twice a week. All in all, a good investment for my family. Happy cooking!

Want a kitchen spice rack but don’t like any of the store bought models. Try a designer kitchen spice rack. A designer spice rack is simply a spice rack that you build on your own. A designer spice rack has 4 major components: the spice rack frame, the spice rack container, the spice labels and the spices themselves.

The material for the spice rack frame should be chosen based on your current kitchen design. Most frames are made from a soft wood like balsa or bamboo; however you can now buy spice rack frames in popular variations like stainless steel and aluminum. The frame itself will be very durable and last a long time. Before selecting a spice rack make sure you have the container size in mind that you will use, so that the containers will fit in the rack. Also think about where the spice rack will be located. Does it need to sit on the counter or hang on the wall.

These days spice rack containers are usually glass or plastic and manufactured making them clear or see through. Plastic can be more porous than glass depending on the quality. This allows air to seep into the spices and cause them to go stale very quickly. The recommendation is to choose thick glass containers to use. Lids come in many varieties as well. It is best to choose a screw cap lit or a rubber stopper. Both types will allow for an air tight seal in the container.

Once you have the frame and container, now it is key to determine the spices you will have in your rack. If you choose to buy the spices in the containers then you can avoid this step. Being able to select your own spices allows you to customize your spice rack in the manner that you cook. It also keeps you from having spices that you will never use. Once you have the spices you need, next comes the labels. You can buy preprinted spice labels that have the most popular spice names on them. However, we recommend that you buy small labels from an office supply store and create your own. Here you can add a touch of creativity to your spice rack.

Building a designer spice rack is very easy to do. You just need to spend a little time thinking about what you want and how you want it to look. Enhance your kitchen design by creating a professional looking spice rack of your own.

Designing a charming and romantic country kitchen with a warm, inviting atmosphere entails more than just setting the table with some quality decorative accessories. Whether you have a tiny kitchen or a spacious one big enough for a big maple table, you can give the space a country flavor with the right color and themed accents.

Color is a key ingredient because it makes the first impression of a room on our senses, so setting the mood is your primary concern. If you can paint the walls, you may choose a very light yellow to give a sunny glow to the kitchen. A primitive design wallpaper or stencil border will further the country look. Combining yellow and a french blue, which is a blue-purple hue, is a traditional use of Country french colors. Add accessories such blue glass and amber glass, blue canister sets, potholders, oven mitts, dishtowels and blue and white check table linens and curtains. Use accents like blue tiles and framed sunflower prints or tin signs.

If your walls have to stay white and your appliances are also white, as in most apartments, you will have to rely on well-chosen splashes of color in your design accents to do the trick. You can start by finding a line of accessories featuring one bold color like red or bright blue or a theme such as roosters, berries, sunflowers or country store. Then add accents that complement the color or the theme.

Let us say, for example, that you choose a line of accessories featuring red, like apples, cherries or strawberries. A set of bold red canisters and a red cookie jar will add panache to the countertop. Your kitchen table can sport a red check or red and white stripe tablecloth and red napkins. You could use a centerpiece of fresh flowers in a red glass bowl. For a party, complete the picture with red candlesticks in white ceramic candleholders. Also consider decorative red glass bottles for a windowsill and red chair cushions. Framed prints of red fruits and vegetables dress up neutral walls.

If you choose blue for your basic color scheme, this color, particularly when combined with accents of yellow, typifies old-world charm. European kitchens feature rich, strong blues in tiles, curtains and glass dishes. At the Claude Monet country estate in Giverny (about an hour north of Paris) the huge, black stove is backed by multi-patterned blue and white tiles, a striking as well as practical design statement. In the adjacent dining room, a dining table has 12-14 yellow-painted chairs and is laid with blue and white dishes on a yellow tablecloth, set off by blue flowers in tiny vases by the place settings. Another set of everyday dishes favored by Monet was bright yellow edged in deep blue. Stunning!

You can use green as an accent in the form of lush, leafy potted plants. Plants serve several functions: they make your kitchen beautiful by bringing nature indoors, they give off oxygen and they will fit right in with your color scheme. If red is your main accent or theme, the green in plants will intensify this color because green is opposite red on the color wheel. They are complementary colors. Green is also the combination of two primary colors, yellow and blue, so it harmonizes with that color scheme also.

Match and complement the featured colors of your country kitchen when you choose your cooking/serving apron as well as potholders and oven mitts. You are the star of the room and you should dress the part!

Having installed hundreds of kitchens over the years, one of the biggest mistakes that I see homeowners make is that they get so focused on the look of the kitchen and don’t think about the functionality of it. Adding custom pieces that look like furniture and installing dishwashers in the drawers sounds innovative and eye-catching, but will it really fit your families needs?

Storage space is even more important in a small kitchen, where counter space is limited and you can’t afford to have unnecessary items taking up space on the counter. Over the years I have come across some creative ways and creative products that can help organize kitchen and maximize the use of storage space, so I thought I would share some of them

1)	Drawer Organizers- for whatever reason, drawers tend to become the catch-all area of the kitchen. Any small item, or seldom used piece gets thrown in the drawer to be forgotten about. There are a lot of creative items on the market right now that help you maximize the drawer space that you have and eliminate the clutter on your counter tops.

Aside from just organizing your utensils, you can now take that cutting board and knife set that has been sitting on your counter and stick it in easy to reach, organized drawer. How about taking those spices off the counter and putting them in an organized drawer with easy access next to the stove? You can even get rid of that bread box you have on the counter and convert a drawer into a bread box.

2)	Appliance Caddy’s- every home should have one of these and it is a great way to de-clutter your countertops and still have access to all the day to day appliances you use.

3)	Pull-out Waste Baskets- While this won’t help with countertop space, it will certainly help with the unsightly trash can. There are several companies out there that set kits to convert a base cabinet into a pull out wastebasket that gets tucked away and out of sight.

4)	Door Mounted Racks- Personally, I think every kitchen should have a couple of these on the doors. Mounted to the back of the doors for base cabinet or wall cabinets, door-mounted racks can be used to organize cleaning supplies, spices, canned goods (just about anything you can think of). Not only do they take advantage of unused space, but they help de-clutter, and put frequently used items at your finger tips.

5)	Pull-Out Wall and Base Organizers- If you look around any kitchen, there is always going to be dead or unused space. The latest trend in kitchen organization is the utilization of pull-out wall and base organizers. This is simply a 3″, 6″, or 9″ wide vertical racking system that can hold spices, cans, pans, or anything you can think of. Some companies offer pegboards to mount pots and pans.

The great thing about these products is that they are strong enough to hold a pantry full of canned goods, versatile enough to accommodate all of your pots and pans, and come in a wide range of sizes for both base cabinets and wall cabinets. If you are not familiar with these types of products, I suggest you look up pull-out wall organizers

While I only pointed out a handful of products on the market to help organize your kitchen, there are literally hundreds if not thousands of different products that can fit your particular needs.

So when you are shopping for new kitchen cabinets or looking for ways to maximize the space that you have, make sure you take the time to look for the products that will truly help organize your life.

Kitchen cabinets are definitely going to be THE biggest expense from your entire kitchen remodel so if you’re on a tight budget here’s some things you might consider re-thinking or doing to keep this expense down.

So one of the options could be going with all wood cabinet doors instead of solid wood cabinet doors. All wood refers to cabinets with side panels that have a hardwood veneer applied to a plywood core and solid wood is a solid piece hard wood.

Hardwood veneer is a thin piece of solid wood that is typically applied to plywood or particleboard with glue to give it strength. It is uniform in finish and its grain is very consistent and there are really beautiful options in this area.

This is the process that is done when you have your kitchen cabinets refaced instead of replaced so if you like the current layout of your cabinets or even if it isn’t your favorite layout but it could still work this will save a lot of your remodeling costs.

Not only is this much less expensive for you it’s also less trees being cut down and protects the forests and still gives you the look of solid wood. All wood cabinet doors also have the advantage of less warping due to humidity and temperature change. So you could be friendlier to your budget and to the environment at the same time.

You might also consider for the cabinet frames ordering plywood sides for just the cabinets that will have one or both sides exposed.

Another option might simply refinishing your existing kitchen cabinets to a more contemporary or suitable finish than replacing the kitchen cabinets altogether. That can really change the entire look of your whole kitchen and would definitely be the easiest on your budget. That’s probably the most economical option.

Another option you might consider is reducing the number of cabinets in your kitchen plans by using one cabinet where you now have two. That might not always work but sometimes it can so look at the layout and see if this is something that is possible.

Another area that you could save on kitchen remodeling costs would be in the decorative options. Molding inserts add a LOT to the remodeling costs of a kitchen remodel. Could you still achieve a good look with fewer moldings?

Another decorative option that really racks up the expense is the handles and drawer pulls. They come in many price ranges and there are thousands of companies that offer them so by doing some shopping around you could find something quite nice in a lower price range.

Another way to save on kitchen remodeling costs would be to reduce or eliminate the number of modifications or construction options. For example could you have a countertop wine rack instead of a custom built-in cabinet? Or does the cabinet depth really need to be modified or could your objectives be met in other ways?

Yet another way to reduce some of your kitchen remodeling costs would be to perhaps put off including some of the fancy cabinet accessories and cool gadgets that could be installed later on or don’t even really need to be custom built at all.

Could the roll out shelves for the base cabinets for example be installed later on? And do you really need the custom knife drawer or the custom spice rack? If you could live without these things it would definitely be a money saving option.

So you don’t need to give up everything but there are always things you could negotiate, compromise on or eliminate altogether. So if you are really needing to keep your kitchen remodeling costs down these are some options that could really help.
